J’avais voulu réserver une chambre au YMCA qui se trouve sur la rue Orchard, mais puisqu’il n’y avait plus de chambre de libre, j’ai opté pour celui sur Stevens Road, qui est un peu plus loin.
Le YMCA est dans un beau quartier. Tout est super propre et entouré de verdure. Par contre, il est situé dans un quartier résidentiel et il n’y aucune façon de se restaurer, sinon marcher 20 à 30 minutes ou prendre le transport en commun. Il y a un arrêt de bus avec un service aux 2 minutes et un métro qui est à 3 minutes de marche. Il faut environ 10 minutes pour arriver sur la rue commerçante Orchard Road, donc ce n’est pas si mal. Ça demande seulement de la planification pour aller au restaurant.
Tous les bus, les métros et les stations de métro sont impeccablement propres. C’est comme si ils étaient tous neufs. Pas d’horribles graffitis qui polluent nos villes. Il faut dire qu’il y a des caméras presque partout, mais il y a très peu de voitures de police qui circulent, par contre.
J’ai fait un circuit qui passe par Gardens on the Bay, par le grand parc situé au bord du détroit de Malacca et je suis ensuite remonté vers le réservoir de Bedok avant de suivre la rivière ou canal Kalang.
Ce qui m’a surpris, entre autres, est le fait que les gens verrouillent leur vélo sans les attacher à quoi que ce soit tout près des métros. Il y a beaucoup trop de gens malhonnêtes chez nous pour pouvoir faire une chose pareille.
I wanted to book a room at the YMCA on Orchard Road, but since there were no rooms available, I chose the one on Stevens Road instead, which is a bit farther away.
The YMCA is in a lovely neighbourhood. Everything is very clean and surrounded by greenery. However, it’s located in a residential area, and there’s nowhere to eat unless you walk at least 20 to 30 minutes or take public transport. There’s a bus stop with service every 2 minutes and a subway station about a 3-minute walk away. It takes about 10 minutes to get to Orchard Road, so it’s not too bad. It just requires a bit of planning if you want to go out for a meal.
All the buses, subways, and stations are impeccably clean. It’s as if they were all brand new. No horrible graffiti defacing the city. There are cameras almost everywhere, though, yet there are very few police cars on patrol.
I did a route that went through Gardens by the Bay, then through the large park along the Strait of Malacca, and then headed up toward the Bedok Reservoir before following the Kallang River or canal.
One thing that surprised me, among others, is that people lock their bikes near subway stations without attaching them to anything. There are far too many dishonest people back home for that to be possible.
